#137 Balcony View – Basilica Sittard
What you’re looking at is a shot of the basilica in Sittard, taken at sunrise.
One morning I woke up to this.
Stepped onto the balcony and was greeted by some of the most beautiful light I’ve seen in a while.
I grabbed my zoom lens and took the shot.

The reflections on the water got me.
So peaceful.
So quiet.
It was one of those really beautiful sunsets.
I was happy just being in Sittard, walking around and taking photos without any rush. Later I made my way into the city centre as well.
Slow walk.
Good light.
All in all…
…a fantastic evening.

An ambulance tore through my long exposure shot with blue lights flashing and siren howling. For a split second, I thought the photo was ruined. But then I realized… maybe I was exactly where I was meant to be.
#93 On The Way To Geleen
A shot of an empty road from a bridge that connects Sittard and Geleen.
Took it early in the morning while cycling to Geleen…
…and I can still feel the cold.
My hands were frozen like they were holding a pack of beer straight from the fridge.
But you know what?
Despite being cold and miserable,
I felt good taking the shot.

On the way home I stopped by the bridge that goes over the rails in Sittard… and waited for the train to enter the scene. I took few shots and this one stood out.

Lately, I’ve been obsessed with shooting vertical panoramas… stacking 5 or 6 shots and stitching them together in Lightroom.
Why?
Because it gives you massive, high-detail images that look incredible in print.
You don’t need crazy high megapixel camera. Just a steady hand and a bit of overlap between shots.
Lightroom does the rest.
Some of the final images turn out huge… the kind you could hang on a wall and still see every bit of detail up close.
I’ve got a 19mm Sigma lens that is perfect for vertical shots…

Most people walk by. Photographers stop, frame, and see.
On my morning walk through Sittard, I noticed this rail guard cutting through the shot. So I lined it up, turned it into a leading line, and hit the shutter.
Nothing fancy. No big setup.
Just me, chasing shapes before the city wakes up.
